STG Specific Counselling

We help people with different kinds of mental health problems. For example, if someone can’t sleep, we use a special kind of help called Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) to try to make their sleep better. We also have other specific services. We use Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to help people with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and bipolar disorders. For those who have trouble focusing because of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), we teach skills to manage it. And for children who are very picky eaters or are afraid of trying new foods – a condition called Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) – we offer counselling to help them and their parents.

comprehensive assessment and screening

STG Assessment

The primary aim of a comprehensive psychological evaluation is to achieve a deeper understanding, rather than simply making a diagnosis. A successful assessment results in a detailed plan that can help individuals, parents, and others address concerns or questions regarding their daily functioning. STG Psychological Assessment offers a thorough treatment plan that focuses on both the strengths and difficulties of you or your child.

Learning Difficulties

Consider a learning assessment if your child struggles to keep up with peers. Issues are commonly noticeable by second grade after targeted interventions. Difficulties with learning English may be more evident in fourth or fifth grade for children in French immersion programs.

ADHD Adults Assessment

Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the strategies and techniques that can assist the brain in effectively managing distractions, impulses, and emotional regulation is of utmost importance.

Mental Health / Behaviour

Examining and understanding unhelpful behavioural patterns in order to develop effective strategies that promote and improve overall mental well-being.

Other Assessment

STG can assist with many other kinds of assessment, specifically tailored to the needs of the client.

Emotional RElief

When dealing with emotions becomes an emotional rollercoaster and impacts sleep

Your rollercoaster ride can end, and a pleasant journey can start!

At STG Health we use Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and other Cognitive Behaviour Therapies to help clients with emotional regulation and distress tolerance.

Emotional Regulation

Emotional regulation from a DBT perspective focuses on effectively managing and controlling emotions. DBT recognizes that some individuals struggle with intense emotions and need support in regulating them. The goal is to develop skills for identifying, understanding, and tolerating emotions while also learning healthy ways to express and cope with them. By practicing techniques like mindfulness and using strategies for distress tolerance and emotion regulation, individuals can improve their emotional control, well-being, and ability to handle difficult situations.

Distress Tolerance

Distress tolerance in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) focuses on developing effective strategies to cope with distressing emotions and challenging situations in a healthy manner, without resorting to harmful behaviors. DBT equips individuals with skills such as self-soothing techniques and distraction techniques, which aim to enhance their ability to tolerate distress. By actively applying these valuable skills, individuals can effectively manage and navigate through difficult emotions, leading to an improved overall quality of life.

CBT-I is a comprehensive therapy that addresses negative thoughts and behaviours related to sleep, promoting healthy sleep habits and improving overall well-being.

Falling asleep

Falling asleep can be conquered with the power of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i), which implements proven techniques such as stimulus control, sleep restriction, cognitive restructuring, and relaxation techniques. By taking control of their sleep environment, regulating their sleep schedule, challenging negative thoughts, and fostering a sense of calmness before bedtime, individuals can achieve improved sleep quality and a restful night’s sleep through the powerful tools of CBT-i.

Staying Asleep

CBT-i is a great treatment for sleep problems. It helps you understand the reasons behind insomnia and improves sleep quality. It teaches techniques like stimulus control and sleep restriction to help you stay asleep all night. CBT-i enables you to associate your bed with sleep and relaxation and regulates your sleep schedule for better restful sleep. Say goodbye to restless nights and hello to rejuvenating sleep with CBT-i.
