STG Health Services will be offering the next Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Skills training in Fall of 2023. DBT was designed specifically to help clients cope with difficulties such as regulating intense emotions, anger, and impulsiveness, among other problem behaviours. Much of what you will learn during DBT is ways in which you can manage and maintain a more positive outlook on life despite overwhelming circumstances.
DBT Skills Training was originally intended to treat clients with borderline personality disorder (BPD). Recently, DBT has been adapted to treat other mental health conditions. It can help people who have difficulty with emotional regulation, severe anxiety and low mood, or are exhibiting self-destructive behaviours.
Skills training groups are held weekly in eight-week blocks. Each eight-week block includes the Mindfulness module (2 weeks) and one of the following modules: Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, or Interpersonal Effectiveness. The maximum number of group participants is 12.
Clients commit to one full eight-week block at a time. When they complete three consecutive eight-week blocks, they received intense skills training comparable to the standard 24-week comprehensive DBT skills training program as developed by Marsha Linehan. Applying the skills learned in the DBT Skills training requires ongoing therapy while participants attend their DBT Skills Training group. Individual therapy with a therapist at least once per month is therefore required.
The participation fee for the DBT Skills Training Fall 2023 is listed below. This fee is based on private pay.
